Nestled within the historic Woodward building at 2311 Connecticut Ave NW, Woodward 607 seamlessly fuses architectural heritage with contemporary living. Originally built in 1909, the two-story apartment has been reimagined for the clients’ lifestyle prioritizing openness, fluidity, and connection—both spatially and through strong ties to the artisan community.
The redesign removes compartmentalized rooms in favor of a loft-like plan preserving select historic elements and introducing sculptural interventions. Interior partitions and finishes from the 1973 conversion of apartments to condominiums were demolished leaving only exterior walls, steel columns, and plumbing risers. A crafted stair liberated from its enclosure ascends along the existing curved corridor wall engaging both living space below and gallery above. First floor ceiling “clouds”, rugs and curated modern furnishings define space and recall the residence’s historic essence. Second floor millwork separates the semi-public gallery and accessible bathroom from private spaces, creating an elegant balance between openness and intimacy.
