Built in 1940, Takoma Flats is a three-story garden apartment complex designed in a tempered modern style. Six distinct buildings occupy a triangular site bound by Juniper Street and Eastern Avenue, NW at the city’s northern limits. Exterior improvements of Takoma Flats include sitework, fencing and landscape upgrades, facade cleaning and repointing, replacement windows, new roofing and new entry canopies. All of the existing apartments have fully upgraded kitchens, baths, utilities, HVAC and plumbing systems and electrical wiring. Additional apartments were added to formerly unimproved below-grade basements. New area-ways provide additional light and terraces for these basement units. Tenants residing at Takoma Flats are from low and moderate income families.
