Bonstra | Haresign ARCHITECTS – Official Announcement

Official Announcement
7.2.2026
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our talented team of architects and designers, consultants, friends and colleagues, and entrepreneurial real estate developer and institutional clients for working together with Bonstra | Haresign ARCHITECTS for 25 years.
Founded by William J. Bonstra FAIA, LEED AP and David Haresign FAIA in 2005, Bonstra | Haresign ARCHITECTS has built a nationally recognized firm recognized for exemplary design and implementation of housing for residents of the Nation’s Capital. Bonstra Haresign ARCHITECTS ascended to become one of the leading architectural design firms in the Washington, DC region, specializing in the planning and design of mixed-use urban architecture and multifamily residential architecture.
In conjunction with Associate Partners Jack Devillbiss, AIA and John Edwards who joined at the inception of the firm, we have completed over 1,200 projects totaling 250,000 residential units, earned nearly 200 national and regional design awards, and delivered transformative multifamily housing to meet the needs of a visionary generation of developers shaping urban spaces and enhancing the architecture of the Nation’s Capital.
After 25 years of contributions to Washington’s architectural heritage, Bill and David will step down as Senior Partners on July 1, 2026.
In keeping with a targeted succession plan, the torch is passed to our next generation. Jack Devillbiss AIA, LEED AP, John Edwards LEED AP, along with many of our talented staff will join Rob McClennan AIA at McClennan Architects LLC, continuing as a successor to our current practice in the Historic Logan Circle neighborhood.
We offer our sincere gratitude to Rob, Jack, John, and our entire team. We are confident that McClennan Architects will carry on Bonstra | Haresign ARCHITECTS legacy and commitment to design excellence, community, academic and professional service that results in implementing enduring contributions to the authentic architecture of the Nation’s Capital, and to the continued strength of our profession.’
