New to Our Team in 2021

We proudly celebrate our 4 new team members, who have joined us in 2021: Alanna Gladney, Gabriela Fuentes, Sumayia Samad, Jhave Buenaventura, and our Intern and Extern, Matt Gilmore and Oliver Church. Our people are our most valuable resource. These new team members were thoughtfully selected by the partners for their creativity, intelligence and talent, for their ability to operate in our collegial studio environment, and for their commitment and interest in our collaborative culture that values our clients, the community, continuing education, and the advancement of our profession.

Alanna Gladney

Alanna has 9 years of experience working in the Architectural industry. Her diverse portfolio includes professional experience in adaptive reuse, residential, civic, mixed-use, and commercial interiors projects. She is involved in projects at all stages—from conceptual design through project delivery, including coordination and client communications. Alanna enjoys working in architecture and urban design because it gives her the opportunity to shape the world we live in, creating spaces that contribute to the human experience and that are mindful of the environment. In addition, Alanna has a passion for giving back and merges that with her passion for design through her involvement with several programs and non-profit organizations.

Gabriela Fuentes

Gabriela has over 7 years of experience on a wide variety of projects, including hospitality, commercial, and residential architectural design. Her portfolio includes boutique hotel retrofits, standalone restaurants/retail buildings, and large-scale townhome developments. She contributes to all stages of the project, from the conceptual design phases to final project delivery. Gabriela’s strong organization and communications skills allow her to work seamlessly with the project team to ensure the client’s goals are met.

Sumayia Samad

Sumayia joined Bonstra | Haresign ARCHITECTS after completing her M.Arch Degree from Virginia Tech. She has a year of work experience in Washington, DC in commercial interior and school renovation projects ranging from concept design through Construction Administration phases. In addition, Sumayia has 3 years of experience in Multi-story Residential, Mixed-Use and Industrial Building Design and Master Planning in Bangladesh. She seeks active participation in achieving social and environmental sustainability through context based architecture and urban design for the community. Sumayia is a member of AIA DC Urban Design Committee along with various women empowerment platforms. As a BHA team member, she is involved in several multi-family residential and adaptive reuse projects.

Jhave Buenaventura

Jhave is a marketing professional with a background in graphic design. She has experience in pursuing residential, commercial, government, and education opportunities and is skilled in proposal and presentation development, as well as managing website content and designing brochures and other marketing collateral. Jhave holds a Bachelor degree in Graphic Communications from Baruch College, CUNY. Beyond her professional expertise, she is passionate about nature and environmental sustainability.

Matt Gilmore

Matt is a 4th year Virginia Tech Architecture student who is currently studying at the WAAC this spring 2021 semester while interning with B|HA since January. Matt has worked on varying projects at different stages of development. He recently completed axonometric drawings for Carver and Slowe Apartments in LeDroit Park and is currently assisting the 750 23rd Street, Arlington project design team. He has been involved with concept design modeling and drawings for the project as well as modeling the existing historic building façade, which will be preserved in the final design. Outside of school, Matt enjoys traveling and has recently picked up skiing as a new hobby.

Oliver Church

Oliver Church is a talented 3rd year undergraduate student Extern completing his final semester at the University of Virginia School of Architecture. He spent two weeks in January at B|HA working alongside other accomplished UVA alumni at the firm including Partner David Haresign, FAIA. During his externship, he attended a site visit to Midtown Row in Williamsburg, VA where he was able to see first hand a project under construction, participate in a punch walk and help provide solutions to questions received from the general contractor.
