Twice Breaking Ground

10 Affordable Buildings in Maryland and DC

The shovels have officially met the dirt! Bonstra | Haresign ARCHITECTS is proud to support and be a part of two successful projects that recently broke ground and will provide high-quality, community-serving affordable housing.

4010 RANDOLPH ROAD Silver Spring, MD

In an innovative, new partnership between AHC Inc. and Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland, Montgomery County Executive, Marc Erlich, broke ground on January 19th, 2023 – a 195-home, deeply affordable community in Silver Spring, MD. Located at the intersection of Randolph Road and Veirs Mill Road, 4010 Randolph Road sits on 6 acres and is one of the largest new construction, affordable developments of its kind in Montgomery County.

The development includes 85 hard-to-find, family-sized, three- and four-bedroom homes with excellent access to schools, shopping, employment and transit. Two future Bus Rapid Transit lines are scheduled to run past the community. Also embodied is a community center, onsite resident services staff and programming, a fitness center, and a half-acre public park with a playground, picnic area, inviting pedestrian walkways, and open lawn areas.

EUCKAL Washington, DC

On November 2nd, 2022, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser broke ground for Sitar Arts Center and Jubilee Housing’s 1460 Euclid Street NW and 1724 Kalorama Road NW projects, collectively referred to as EucKal. The groundbreaking celebrates the creation of 50 new units of justice housing – deeply affordable homes with supportive programs in resource-rich neighborhoods.

Located in the Columbia Heights neighborhood, 1460 Euclid Street, NW is an existing 4-story brick building. The renovation of the building includes a 1-story addition atop the existing structure. When the project is complete, the building will contain 25 affordable housing units and a community space that will be accessible to the residents of the building as well as the larger Jubilee Housing residential community.

1724 Kalorama Road, NW is an existing office building that will be converted to a mixed-use building. The renovation includes the addition of two levels to the existing 3-story structure. The project will provide 25 affordable housing units in the Adams Morgan neighborhood as well as an annex to the Sitar Arts Center and office space for Jubilee Housing staff.
